Ako Mismo Update: Feared Intentions Confirmed

I learned from a very reliable source today that the Ako Mismo campaign was indeed conceptualized for political campaign purposes. Big money was put into the campaign, including the involved telco company signing Ely Buendia as endorser.

No not all of the celebrities were paid. I still commend Maxine Magalona for being the first one to speak up on Facebook to clear her intentions. But, Maxine, you guys were used.

From the word I got, the arrangement for passing on the Ako Mismo database for political campaign use fell through because of all the bad publicity it's been getting. And rightly so.

I've heard that Tribal DDB finally went public. I still have to find their official statement.

Ako Mismo is still a good cause to support. Maybe not by signing up on the website, but by hearing the message and doing your part. Like what I'm doing. It reminds me of Nora Aunor's famous scene from the movie Himala -- Walang himala! Ang himala ay nasa puso ng tao! Nasa puso nating lahat' Tayo ang gumagawa ng himala! Tayo ang gumagawa ng mga sumpa at ng mga Diyos! 'Nuff said.

Kudos to those who asked questions and clamored for answers. Your public outcry did not go unheard. It was worth the effort to question. Let's continue to be vigilant.

  1. Checked the Ako Mismo website again. DDB came out by acknowledging ownership of the site thru an added section on the site. Stating the obvious. But they still have kept mum about what the ultimate intentions of the site was. I wonder why... :P

  2. May I ask what is it that Tribal DDB went public with? What is the proof that this is all for political campaigning?

  3. I didn't say this is all for political campaigning. I think most of those who participated had good intentions. But there were "higher-up" intentions that weren't that noble. They did intend to bid out the project to the political campaigners, although that will probably not happen anymore.

They also have other follow up activites planned that are on hold until this clears up.

  4. Moral of the story here is that when your gut tells you something isn't right, speak up and ask. Because asking will bring out the truth.
